GFC is NO MORE!!

I'm not sure if you're heard yet, but Google is getting rid of Google Friend Connect on July 1st! I'm not a happy camper! I'm a pretty new blog and GFC is the main way I've promoted and gained a following.

Sigh. Not much we can do I suppose.

What we can do is import all of our subscriptions over to Bloglovin'. I'll be honest, I haven't used it often if ever and I'm not sure I'm even going to like it. What I do know is I'm not a fan of Google +.  I'm not knocking it for those that like it, it's just not for me. I've NEVER used it to follow blogs and pretty sure I never will.

So, this is how to import your blogs into Bloglovin'. (There may be a better way but this is how I did it.)

First, go to Bloglovin'.  Either login or create an account. Then, click where indicated in the following photos.

It may ask for your google password at this point. If so, enter it and then you will see a similar screen like below. Continue clicking where indicated.

At this point, you'll right click, scroll down to 'Open Containing Folder' and copy the file and paste it onto your desktop so it's easier to find. Then, go back to this screen:
Click on browse and find the folder on your desktop. open it up and click on 'subscriptions' like shown.

Then like in the previous picture, click upload.

Now if you look on the left hand side of my bloglovin' account, you'll see a list of all the blogs I follow on GFC.

I actually got an error message saying, "File looks empty." But once I refreshed my bloglovin' page, all the blogs were listed.

I certainly hope this helps! I know I don't want to lose any of my followers or blogs that I love to follow!

  1. I just saw this too and it's a huge bummer. My blog is pretty new, as well. I don't like Google+ and I hardly use Bloglovin but I guess that's where I'll have to go...

    Thanks for posting this tutorial!

  5. I love Google Reader also. And I am not much for change. When I get comfortable with something, I usually stick with it. I am following you now with Bloglovin.

    Take care,

  6. Yes, it is a bit of a concern for me also. I have very few who have joined my site but i have about 75 subscribers through Google Reeder. I know that there are other options out there. I also heard that a few have had overloads because people are switching fast. I will link up your post when I post about it on my blog. Thanks for sharing. See yo at BYB
